Does a slot win cap include a progressive jackpot? Check the scope
A maximum-win statement is incomplete for a jackpot comparison until you know what it covers. It may describe a game round, a feature or a separately defined prize. You cannot add a progressive display to a capped total—or include it inside that cap—without the rule that connects them.
For the topic overview, see Are trigger and retrigger the same thing?.
The two models below show why the same displayed amounts can lead to different calculations. They are deliberately hypothetical, not rules attributed to a named slot.

Write the two possible wordings in full
Model A says the combined award, including the jackpot component, cannot exceed 1,000 units. Model B says the base-and-feature component is capped at 1,000, while a separately eligible jackpot is added outside that cap.
Those are different assumed contracts. The UK progressive-jackpot standard identifies jackpot rules, eligibility and ceilings as information requiring disclosure. It does not resolve the relationship for a game whose actual rules have not been supplied.
The same inputs, different defined scopes
| Assumption | Calculation with base 900 and jackpot 300 | Result |
|---|---|---|
| A: cap covers the combined amount | min(900 + 300, 1,000) | 1,000 |
| B: cap covers only the base component | min(900, 1,000) + 300 | 1,200 |
The arithmetic is not in dispute. The difference is where the cap applies. Choosing the more favorable formula without evidence is not a correction; it is choosing a different rule.

A large jackpot display may not be an award to this round
Before either formula is relevant, establish that the prize belongs to the same completed round and that its eligibility conditions were met. A current pool counter, maximum potential amount and credited prize are three different records.
A component may also already be included in a displayed total. Adding it again would double-count it even if it sits outside another cap. Keep the breakdown and the final accepted total together, with their labels intact.
A precise question is more useful than a guessed total
Record the exact edition, feature, cap wording, stake basis, jackpot type and round identifier. Then ask: “Does this cap include this jackpot component, and is the jackpot already included in the displayed total?” Those two questions address scope and duplication separately.
If the current rules do not answer them, leave the monetary conclusion unresolved. A screenshot of two large numbers does not supply the missing relationship. Understanding a ceiling is also not evidence of how often it will be reached or a reason to pursue it through further play.
